Meta and other social media companies are implementing AI and face scan technology to identify child users on their platforms as part of child safety measures. Meta has one year to refine its age assurance approach under an $18 billion settlement with 48 states and the District of Columbia, with the company's methods potentially becoming industry standards.

Meta is asking some individual contributors in its Applied AI division to return to managerial roles after implementing a flat structure with up to 50 contributors per manager. The division, formed in March with 7,000 employees, previously eliminated management layers during its 2023 efficiency campaign.
