JWST finds early galaxies may be 4 times more massive than thought

Early galaxies contain three to four times more mass than previously estimated due to abundant small, faint stars not detected by earlier observations. This discovery complicates explanations for how massive galaxies formed rapidly after the Big Bang and suggests planets around low-mass stars were more prevalent in the early universe.

A marbled murrelet nest was discovered in Haida Gwaii for the first time in over 30 years, located within dense forest vegetation among western red cedars. Researchers found the nest after traveling through challenging terrain and waters, including crossing Dixon Entrance in an open skiff.

Computer models identified catalytic materials that could enable sustainable ammonia production to replace fossil fuel-dependent methods currently responsible for 1.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The research focused on finding catalysts that improve the efficiency of ammonia synthesis, which currently consumes up to 2% of worldwide energy.

The Curiosity rover discovered a massive field of polygons on Mars's surface. These formations exist because Mars lacks resurfacing processes like plate tectonics and volcanism that reshape Earth.
