Floating-electron catalyst withstands week in air while making ammonia under milder conditions

Researchers at Science Tokyo created BaSiN2:O, a catalyst material that maintains stability in air for a week while synthesizing ammonia under milder conditions than conventional methods. The material achieves this through oxygen-doped barium silicon nitride that forms a stable surface layer of freely floating electrons.
