Businesses with fewer than 1,000 employees made 92% of May hires
Small businesses with fewer than 1,000 employees accounted for 92% of private sector hires in May, with companies employing 10 to 49 people making the largest contribution. Companies with 5,000 or more employees posted 3% of job openings but made fewer than 2% of actual hires.

Meta is asking some individual contributors in its Applied AI division to return to managerial roles after implementing a flat structure with up to 50 contributors per manager. The division, formed in March with 7,000 employees, previously eliminated management layers during its 2023 efficiency campaign.

China’s car exports beat last year’s record with four months to go
